Alone vs lonely

C and I were discussing the difference between alone and lonely. I was often alone as a child, but I never remember being lonely. Here in my cookie cutter cube, in a nondescript building in a dishwater dull complex of nondescript buildings occupied by tens of thousands of workers... Here I feel lonely.

In the glow of endless brakelights

Freezing rain for our drive home tonight. Everyone was driving slowly and carefully, but oh so very very slowly, and it made the trip home exhausting.

Family twosome bowling tournament. Thank goodness the kids are decent bowlers because their parents sure weren't today!

New mittens, a gift from Mary. I drove Jeff nutty by staging puppet shows over the cube wall with them... Friday fun :)

I have literally dozens of things on my to-do list, but tonight instead of tackling any of them my little guy and I sat down and put together a 250 piece puzzle.

Time to pack away all of the Christmas cards... makes me sad, I love Christmas cards, I love getting them in the mail, I love hearing from those people I don't get to see very frequently.

Thank goodness it washes off...

The Avon roll-on soaps seemed like a good idea at the time...

Seriously sucks

It appears I have Fifth disease. Most people get this as children. I am not most people. My coworker contracted it after an outbreak at her daughter's daycare and, well, I guess we share more than a cube wall. My head aches so much, I'm exhausted, and now the rash.

At least it's short lived and self-limiting. It just sucks right now. Wonder how many of my kids will catch it...

Today

I'm scrapbooking today, dappled sunshine through the windows, Manhattan Transfer blaring from Grooveshark. I'm a terribly messy scrapbooker, but there is such satisfaction in putting our stories to paper. I don't want to be as much a mystery to my grandchildren as my grandparents are to me.

Don't like the weather?

Then just wait a minute...

Yup, it snowed last week. This week - it's 29C at 6:45pm. I think Mother Nature has Alzheimer's, she's forgotten what a day in early May should be like...

Could it be?

Could it be that Summer has finally arrived??? Just in time for Fall? Alas, Canadian weather, if we couldn't complain about it what else would we have to talk about?

really likes pogos

(Or as my American friends call them - corn dogs)

I often amuse myself by peeking in other peoples' carts at the grocery (and wonder what they must think of my shopping habits too!) but this one had me giggling. There were more than 50 boxes in this cart (at the Costco) and each box has 40 pogos in it. That'a lot o' corn dogs!

C guesses they must own a chip truck.

The forecast: all bad

That might be a bit of an exaggeration (as well as blatantly stolen from C) but this really feels like the year summer forgot us. How will I get through the winter if I'm not receiving my sunshine quotient now?

Don King hair

We had a bonfire tonight, just C and I, after the bits were in bed :)

After the marshmallows were gone I amused myself taking long exposure shots of the sparks rising from the top of the fire and the effect on 'film' of looking like the hair on a treasure troll. Or on Don King

Chose a heck of a week for vacation...

How I spent my summer vacation

I'm on vacation this week. We're enjoying a 'staycation', which is hardly a hardship given our great yard and pool. Today, day 1, we've played in the park, gone for a walk and swam in the pool, and I've worked on a placemat mini quilt.. Alas, the weather promises to be ookie most of the week...

the days drift by

I can't believe I haven't blogged in two weeks. I'm here, but the weather has been pretty, and there are gardens to weed, garage sales to peruse, games of flatball to be played, baby quilts to be made, life to be lived.

School is almost over for the year and the bits are anxious to be done. I'll be taking a couple of weeks of precious holiday time at the beginning of July and I, too, am anxious for days of enjoying the sun and the pool and summer.

Life in the capital

Around 1:00 today my office mates and I could hear a terrible ruckus coming from the street (bear in mind we're on the 5th floor and have thick office type unopenable windows). Between 3,000 and 4,000 forestry workers were marching up Metcalfe St towards Parliament Hill, chanting "Wake up Harper, Harper reveille" (which was quite catchy, I was chanting in my head half the afternoon). The 'parade' went on a loooooong time too, but was peaceful. Fun times downtown!
