Disposable Society

Does anyone ever have watches repaired anymore? Really, do we ever have ANYTHING repaired anymore (apart from cars, and if they were just a little cheaper we'd probably throw those out too).

I pass by this place every day with its shabby awning, peeling paint and perpetually locked doors, and I wonder how watch repair stores, knife sharpeners, vacuum repair shops and other such places manage to stay in business in our throw-away society.

Too true, Valerie. The sad truth is, for those of us who keep a Timex as our best watch, it just makes more sense to get a new watch than to fix one! Same goes for VCRs, DVD players and sometimes even computers!

Actually, we do. There's a little watch repair place nearby that we go to for our watch repairs, but certainly not enough to keep them in business lol.

FIL was a "fixer"...if it was broke, grandpa could fix it--our VCRs, radios, cassettes, washer, dryer, refrigerator...yeah, we have lots of old stuff around here ;)

Now a place DH always wonders about (and comments about e-v-e-r-y-t-i-m-e we pass by) is how the pool table place stays in business lol! Just how many pooltables can they sell? Yes, I'll have to get a picture that one lol
